Having seen the movie, looks like it was a heck of a tour. Worth the time to watch if you like the bands listed, or trains, or just bands drinking heavily while on trains. ;-)
Yep. Either the Dead played that set a day early, or someone got their dates crossed (like that could happen!).
There's (one of many) a backstory of course. My ex-sister-in-law was with a picker from one of the un-named bands on that spree (The Cate Bros, affilliated with The Band), and had her firstborn in a station wagon while they chased that train across Canada.
fwiw, I think the movie might have missed the really good stuff...

That ad had a Neil Young endorsement. I've searched the video of the time, and find no evidence. Lack of evidence being, exactly what it is. Couldn't find clips of BST/ALTEC either.

Festivals Point of view from down under. The Aussies knew how to put on rock festivals. A pretty good article with a good history of the evolution of rock festival sound systems. This writer says the Monterey Pop Festival in 1967 was officially the first. The largest event I attended was the US Festival in So. Cal. A bit more advanced system than the one in Wisconsin, but that 1970 festival was a really a lot of fun! Doug
